Performing Arts Program 1 – Shine On Stage

A five-day course designed for students with a keen interest in the Performing Arts.

This course uses the dramatic arts methodology to deliver the outcomes of leadership, teamwork and collaboration. Students are taught by industry professionals currently working in the performing arts and media industries. Course content includes:

  • Integrating the three disciplines of acting, singing and dance
  • Explore the essentials of acting and singing
  • Skills in voice, movement, improvisation and acting
  • Singing and dancing collaboration with a choreographer
  • Prepare and rehearse scenes
  • Work with directors and prepare for performance

The course culminates in a “Graduation” Student Production in the facilities on-site theatre where students demonstrate the skills acquired over the course.

Course Day Plan

Introduction to Theatre Arts

  • Developing Skills of Improvisation
  • Using an example of a text, a song, a photo, a newspaper article etc. and interpreting it in a dramatic form

Voice Physical Theatre

  • The skills and techniques necessary to create and interpret characterisation and the dramatic tension

Developing Character / Devising Topic Areas for Playbuilding

  • The skills and techniques necessary to create and interpret drama themselves
  • The various processes involved in transforming a performance concept into live action

The Playbuilding Process – Developing / Rehearsing a Piece of Theatre

  • The various artistic processes involved in “making drama”
  • The various planning processes and methods of structuring the actual “making of drama”
  • The skills to perform and/or present an “act of drama” either formally or informally, in a given space, at a given time, for a given audience

Production Day Dress and Technical Rehearsal

  • The skills to perform and/or present and “act of drama” either formally or informally, in a given space, at a given time, for a given audience
  • The various processes involved in transforming a performance concept into live action
  • The skills to evaluate their own and others’ performances
