Performing Arts Program 2 – Behind the Scenes

A five-day course designed for students with a keen interest in the “behind the scenes” of Performing Arts.

This course uses the dramatic arts methodology to deliver the outcomes of leadership, teamwork and collaboration. Students are taught by industry professionals currently working in the performing arts and media industries. Course content includes:

  • Set design and construction
  • Props their use and effectiveness
  • Costume design
  • Makeup skills and techniques for stage and film
  • Understanding Studio and Location shoots

The course culminates in a “Graduation” Student Production in the facilities on-site theatre where students demonstrate the skills acquired over the course.

Ages 12 and over

Course Day Plan

Introduction to Theatre Arts

  • Developing Skills of Design and Inspiration
  • Using an example of a text, a song, a photo, a newspaper article etc. and transferring this to visual design

Set Costume

  • The skills and techniques necessary to create and interpret them through objects and set pieces and costumes and materials

Lights Marketing/Promotions

  • The skills and techniques necessary to create and interpret drama themselves and realise these things through light
  • The skills to analyse and develop a design concept around an existing idea to market the event

Designing for a Piece of Theatre and Evaluating the Process

  • The various artistic processes involved in transforming a performance concept into live action
  • The various planning processes and methods of structuring the actual “making of drama”

Production Day Performance and Evaluation

  • The skills to perform and/or present and “act of drama” either formally or informally, in a given space, at a given time, for a given audience
  • The various processes involved in transforming a performance concept into live action
  • The skills to evaluate their own and others’ performances
