By May 5, 2016News

Easter weekend April 2016, Excelzia had the privilege of hosting IPEKA IICS Junior High’s first overseas Immersion Program and Study Tour in Sydney, Australia.

The IPEKA IICS group consisted of 17 Y8 and Y9 students and 2 teacher chaperones. They arrived in Sydney on a crisp autumn Easter Saturday. Greeted and welcomed by Excelzia staff at Sydney Kingsford airport they were whisked away to their Student Accommodation in the historic The Rocks district of Sydney. Their first day started with an Excelzia Welcome lunch, followed by a cruise on Sydney Harbour.

Over the rest of the Easter long weekend, they were able to attend an Easter Sunday Church service, and got to visit the annual Sydney Royal Easter Show. The Easter Show is a unique annual event and Excelzia had managed to work with the Royal Agricultural Society to hold a  School Excursion and fun day for IPEKA IICS group on Easter Monday.

During the week IPEKA IICS had an Immersion Program into one of Sydney’s leading private Christian Schools for 3 days. This enabled the visiting students to experience school life in Australia including participating in classes, lessons, buddy system, playing sports, and providing a fantastic and interactive cultural performance.

As part of their Study Tour, IPEKA IICS attended Excelzia Digital Media Experiential Learning Programs as it worked with their school curriculum. They got to experience Film Making, Electronic Music Production and Animation. At the end of the program, they were presented with their certificates of attendance.

Excelzia planned and organised a week packed with cultural and educational activities including Sydney city sightseeing, excursions to famous Sydney beaches, Sydney Observatory for an astronomy education, an historical walking tour around Sydney’s oldest precinct, The Rocks district, and also shopping and visiting local markets.

On their last day, Excelzia organised a day full of fun and adventure with an evening to remember. Early in the morning, they caught a ferry across Sydney Harbour to Taronga Zoo where they were able to get up close and personal with Australian wildlife, sharing some knowledge, laughs and quiz over a typical Australian BBQ lunch. In the afternoon, the group participated in the exciting and challenging Wild Ropes activity. Here they got to overcome their fears, challenge themselves to overcome the obstacles, learn how to work as a team and most of all, have some fun. The day closed with dinner and fireworks display at Sydney’s Darling Harbour.

Excelzia would like to express their gratitude to IPEKA IICS, the teachers and students, for their participation, enthusiasm and exemplary behaviour. We look forward to hosting IPEKA IICS again in the future.
